The Physical Therapy Assistant (CPTA) is responsible for assisting the physical therapist (PT) in implementing the plan of care and treatment programs to restore a patient's/residents/ optimal function and mobility. The CPTA performs treatment commensurate with their education and training utilizing exercise, equipment and modalities to improve strength, balance, coordination, range of motion to decrease pain. The CPTA assists in providing education related to the retreatment program, disease process and prevention of further injuries to the patient/resident/family/caregiver and other members of the health care team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for providing treatment as directed by the staff Physical Therapist.
Ability to observe and evaluate treatment effect, discusses outcomes with staff Physical Therapist.
Able to assess patient pain with referral to appropropriate personnel as needed.
Demonstrates knowledge of physical therapy modalities.
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs.
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
Documentation meets current standards and policies.
Participates in staff education
Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of patient and clinical condition.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, deal with stressful situations, and handle conflict.
