Responsibilities As an Emergency Medicine Coder, you will handle a variety of vital responsibilities, including: · Reviewing physicians’ notes to determine if documentation requirements are met · Processing of inpatient charges and quality reviews · Extrapolating and applying anesthesia codes as applicable across anatomical subsections · Analyzing medical documentation to assess accuracy · Coding and entering charges in EPIC · Conducting internal audits · Identifying and reporting any potential compliance risks and reimbursement opportunities · Corresponding with physicians in regard to documentation and coding issues Note: This position is based in Los Angeles, California and will not be remote. Qualifications We are seeking a self-directed, detail oriented professional with:
· Current CPC license and Certified Emergency Department Coder (CEDC) certificate · Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Medicine coding experience, required · Experience as Medical Record Abstractor · Detailed knowledge of Medical Terminology and its application · Detailed knowledge and understanding of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems · Knowledge of CMS and local carrier regulations and requirements for documenting/billing physician services at a teaching hospital · Working knowledge of anatomy and physiology · Computer proficiency with MS Office · Ability to meet established continuing education requirements by attending required training workshops, reading materials in order to maintain yearly CEUs required for Certified Professional Coder UCLA is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
