You Will Be Responsible For:
Provides skilled physical therapy intervention based on the physical therapist's plan of care in accordance with state practice act, insurance guidelines/requirements, and accreditation agency requirements.
Provides therapeutic exercise to develop strength and endurance, range of motion and flexibility.
Provides therapeutic activity to improve functional performance includes bed mobility and transfer training.
Provides neuromuscular re-education to improve balance, coordination, kinesthetic sense, posture and proprioception
Provides gait training to instruct in the use and care of orthosis, prosthesis and assistive devices, i.e. Crutches, canes, walkers, utilizing the appropriate weight bearing status and gait pattern on flat surfaces, curbs, ramps, and stairs.
Provides wheelchair management to facilitate proper positioning and mobility.
Provides myofascial release/soft tissue mobilization to reduce and control pain, edema, and spasm.
Provides hydrotherapy/wound care to provide debridement and promote wound healing.
What You Will Need:
An Associate’s Degree in Physical Therapist Assistant, State Licensure and AIDS education are required.
Proficiency to rotate throughout the system (Acute, medical/surgical, neurology, orthopedic, oncology, critical care, cardiac care, outpatient setting and Rehab Center) through the normal work routine is achieved in 12 to 18 months.
Must retain a valid driver's license and current automobile insurance, as driving between facilities is a requirement of this position.
The physical therapist assistant’s primary responsibility is to carry out the treatment plan established by the physical therapist for the rehabilitation of patients who have impairments, functional limitations, disabilities or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease or other causes. Their intervention is purposeful and skilled utilizing the therapeutic application of physical and chemical agents, exercise and other procedures to produce changes in the condition consistent with the diagnosis and prognosis. They interact and practice in collaboration with a variety of both healthcare and non-healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, government agencies and third party payers.
The Physical Therapist Assistant participates in carrying out the objectives of this service by performing duties which are commensurate with his / her education and which are delegated to him / her by the supervising Physical Therapist. Duties are carried out within the framework established by the Department of Professional Regulations as promulgated within Standards of Practice and in full compliance with standards as set forth by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO), Commission Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) at Peninsula Rehabilitation Center (PRC) and the American Physical Therapy Association.
