This position is in the Physical Therapy (PT) Section within the Rehabilitation Care Line (RCL) of the VA Medical Center in Cincinnati, OH. The primary duty location is at the Norwood Mental Health & Wellness Center located in Norwood, OH. The PTA/Whole Health Coordinator functions well above the full performance level, completing duties that are of significant scope, complexity and variety across the continuum of care and services provided by the Care Line. The major duties for the Physical Therapist Assistant (Program Coordinator) position are: Advanced Skills: (1) Demonstrates advanced knowledge of treatment techniques determined to be valuable in a Whole Health approach to patient care. (2) Demonstrates advanced training and skill in spreadsheet development and data collection of value to the Whole Health program in demonstrating effectiveness of treatments, trainings and supportive of program development. (3) Coordinates scheduling needs, and assignment/class coverage for Whole Health Program, serving as liaison between Whole Health Program Manager, providers and AMSA. (4) Able to offer specialty observation and/or clinical intervention in specialty area of Whole Health/Wellness as a Clinical Instructor. (5) Completion of identified Whole Health training for role (e.g., Whole Health 101, Motivational Interviewing) as specified by the Whole Health Program Manager. (6) Possession and demonstration of clinical and administrative competence to serve as an active team leader in a comprehensive clinical program such as Whole Health. (7) Proven ability to provide instruction/training to other members of an interdisciplinary team concerning the integration of Whole Health into a care delivery system. Administrative Functions: (1) Conducts record keeping related to patient care documentation and quality improvement data collection in the area of Whole Health. (2) Assists Advanced Medical Support Assistants with consult management and return to clinic needs utilizing Consult Tracking Tool to include travel arrangements prn. (3) Performs other tasks as assigned by the Whole Health Program Manager, Supervisor, Physical Therapy Section that is consistent with the mission of the Section, the Rehab Care Service Line and the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. (4) Responsible for collection and reporting of QI data as requested by the Program Manager and PT Supervisor. (5) Demonstrates advanced knowledge of electronic documentation, telehealth, and computer skills and may serve as primary educator for Veteran for telehealth readiness. Communication Skills: (1) The PTA/Whole Health Coordinator demonstrates the teaching skills required to provide education to patients, family members, caregivers, employees, students, and coworkers. (2) Communicates effectively with other internal and external health care providers. (3) Performs competent written documentation of physical therapy interventions and communication with collaborating physical therapist. (4) Participates in interdisciplinary care planning conferences. Clinical Instruction: (1) Serves as Clinical Instructor (CI) for PTA students by preparing and administratively assisting in the clinical education experiences for PTs, PT residents, and PTA students in the area of Whole Health utilizing instruments approved by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) with additional requirements based upon federal, state, and affiliate concerns: a. Planning in coordination with Director of Clinical Education (DCE) and Site Coordinator for Clinical Education (SCCE). b. Timely and appropriate verbal/written feedback to all customers. c. Assist PTA students with formal interim and final evaluations. d. Provides for additional educational experience in consultation with PT Supervisors, CIs and students (e.g., surgical observation, in-service training, and attendance at interdisciplinary meetings). e. Provision of specialty content area training as needed. (2) As CI, holds APTA CI certification; otherwise serves as mentor in area of specialty. Continuing Education & Professional Development: (1) The PTA/Whole Health Coordinator continually seeks to improve knowledge and skill by review of current literature, participation within in-service training, presentations in Journal Club, and attendance at continuing education programs. Works with the Whole Health Program Manager, PT Supervisors and RCL Management to advance the knowledge and skills of the rehab staff in area of Whole Health. (2) Continuing education and training will include coursework directed toward the development and improvement of clinical instruction, data collections and reporting techniques, and utilization and reporting of outcome measures in assigned settings and/or specialty area(s). Environmental Functions: (1) Demonstrates awareness of safety hazards and takes corrective action. (2) Demonstrates knowledge and application of clinical practice guidelines impacting all physical therapy patients and programs.
