The Communications & Community Relations Specialist reports directly to the Communications Manager, Mid-South Group. Under the oversight of the Communications Manager, this position has responsibility for day-to-day message drafting, generating positive news that focuses on service lines and hospital reputation, building and maintaining media relationships, internal communications development and execution, assisting the marketing team with social media implementation and staffing public relations events on-site.
The role is also responsible for all aspects of community relations including working in tandem with the market CEO to create an overall engagement strategy and set of goals for the system that includes planning, building and supporting focused initiatives designed to measurably improve community health. Results of these initiatives will be measured and reported to hospital leadership and community stakeholders as well others deemed appropriate by the market CEO on a regular basis. This role will be responsible for identifying, vetting and performing community speaking engagements, sponsorships, charitable giving, partnerships and will be responsible for community partner engagement.
This role will work closely with the group communications manager and director of communications for needs relating to community events as well as preparing talking points, presentations and other communications materials for hospital leadership as it relates to community health platform initiatives and other community engagement events and opportunities. In addition, this role will be responsible for providing counsel to hospital leadership on community opportunities, leadership boards and other events to enhance the hospital and leadership profile within the community. This role will also be responsible for aspects of service recovery and overall brand awareness and will work collaboratively with the hospital leadership, marketing, and strategy teams.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
Proactive Earned Media:
Communications planning â�� participate and execute the hospitals annual communications plan to support strategic and marketing initiatives.
Media List Development and relationship management â�� creating and maintaining media list and relationships with reporters including all of the smaller publications in each area to maximize local coverage.
Press Releases - researching, writing and distributing all press releases. Getting all required approvals per Tenet policies and ensuring distribution to the media in a timely manner with continuous follow up.
Story Idea Development / media pitching - responsible for coming up with human interest stories, patient testimonial stories, and service line based stories and positive reputational stories featuring key doctors and staff members at all facilities in conjunction with the marketing and strategic initiatives.
Works directly with hospital leadership to cultivate and develop media opportunities from within the hospital including employees, medical staff and patient testimonials.
Collaborates with marketing to negotiate added value for ad buys and create all content for these opportunities in line with hospital business plan.
Provides on-site support for all media visits to the hospital. If unable to attend, coordinate with backup staff that have been trained.
Issue Management â�� work with Group Communications Director and hospital team on fact gathering and provide. Act as media liaison for hospitals.
Crisis Communication/Press Conferences - provide support as a resource to the hospitals in creating and shaping a message during times of crisis and assist all of the facilities at press conferences with set up and organization. This includes support on sight for management and coordination of set up, media management and breakdown.
Act as PIO for hospitals. Participate in incident command center at the hospital level and coordinate with Group Communications Director.
Social and Other:
Social Media Content Development â�� create content in partnership with the hospital marketing managers that can be used across multi channels that includes event photos, patient testimonials, news segments and articles, etc. Provide approved content and proof of appropriate consent forms to the corporate communications social media team for posting. Work with marketing to ensure alignment and support of campaigns and initiatives.
Management of Hospital Website Newsroom â�� Provide appropriate content to Group Communications Director for placement on the hospital website newsroom
Contribute stories to Tenet Newsroom.
Manage aspects of service recovery.
Admin and Reporting:
Monitor and clip media and provide to hospital A-Teams in a timely manner.
Work with group CEOs on internal communications needs and execute accordingly.
Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or related field.
At least 1 year of local work experience is required.
Ability to travel locally up to 50%. Will run MVR on final candidate.
