The Cheyenne VA Medical Center, Physical Medicine and Rehab Service, is currently recruiting for two (2) PT positions. The Outpatient position is 100% outpatient with rare inpatient coverage. The Inpatient position is 50% inpatient and 50% outpatient. Determination of the Inpatient and Outpatient Physical Therapy positions will be made during the interview/selection process. Selectees will also be notified of the position at the time of the job offer. Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. Physical Therapists must be proficient in spoken and written English Citizenship. Candidates must be a citizen of the United States. Education and experience. The individual must meet at least one of the requirements below: Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy AND, Five (5) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist OR, Master's degree in Physical Therapy AND, Two (2) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist. OR, Doctorate degree in physical therapy. NOTE: Individuals must be a graduate of a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accredited college or university. The CAPTE is the only accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to accredit entry-level physical therapy programs. Licensure. Individuals hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Non-licensed PTs, who otherwise meet the basic requirements in this standard, may be given a temporary appointment as a graduate PT at the GS-11 grade level under the authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 (a)(1)(D) for a period not-to-exceed two years from the date of employment on the condition that such PT provide care only under the supervision of a PT who is licensed. Failure to obtain licensure during that period is justification for termination of the temporary appointment. Grade Determination. In addition to the basic requirements, the following criteria must be used when determining the appropriate grade assignment of candidates. GS-11 Physical Therapist (Entry Level) Education, Experience, and Licensure. None beyond the basic requirements. GS-12 Physical Therapist (Full Performance Level) Education, Experience and Licensure. In addition to the basic requirements, candidates must possess one year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, hold a valid unrestricted state license AND, The candidate must demonstrate all of the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities below: 1. Ability to make autonomous clinical decisions in a Direct Access environment. This includes ability to independently evaluate and treat patients who seek physical therapy services. 2. Skill in performing examinations and evaluations of individuals who have or may develop impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions related to conditions of the musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular, pulmonary, and/or integumentary systems while considering the effects attributable to unique psychosocial and environmental factors. 3. Ability to interpret findings from examination and evaluation, select appropriate test and measures, and integrate findings into the physical therapy plan of care for the full range of patient populations. 4. Ability to establish a diagnosis within the scope of physical therapy and identify the appropriate rehabilitation intervention, including referral to another provider for further consultation as clinically indicated. 5. Ability to determine physical therapy prognosis by incorporating examination findings with the patient's preferences in order to set clinically appropriate treatment goals, optimize outcomes and maximize functional independence. 6. Ability to independently provide clinical oversight of Physical Therapy Assistants as well as students on clinical affiliations who are in Doctoral PT Programs or PTA Programs. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-11 to GS-12. Physical Therapist is accountable for development and implementation of a physical therapy treatment program at this facility. He/she provides outpatient care services, actively participates as an integral part of the interdisciplinary team, develops and implements resolutions to problems related to PT, and serves as a mentor to other therapists evaluating and treating patients in the program area. Services are also provided for inpatient care on an occasional or as needed basis. The Physical Therapist also participates on various interdisciplinary teams, may precept physical therapy and physical therapist assistant students, and performs other duties as indicated. The primary population served is veterans ages 18 to 85+ needing physical therapy/rehabilitative services. The major duties and responsibilities of the position are listed below: a. Uses appropriate standard and non-standard methods for evaluating and interpreting a wide variety of patient physical functional levels and provides progressive treatment in concurrence with evidence based current physical therapy practice. Knowledge of clinical signs and symptoms to make appropriate referrals for further medical attention/assessment as indicated.\nb. Involves patient, family and pertinent health care staff in the treatment process by demonstrating effective written and oral communication.\nc. Evaluates proper functioning or prosthetic/orthopedic devices and/or equipment to enable the patient to obtain maximum benefit from the device. Makes appropriate recommendations regarding device modifications or makes necessary modifications to enable maximum patient benefit.\nd. Independently solves complex problems related to physical therapy, adapting and modifying treatment plans, activities, and procedures to meet the needs of patients with complex disabilities. The candidate demonstrates ability to interpret clinical prescriptions and referrals.\ne. Communicates with supervisor and all other members of the interdisciplinary team in an effective, timely manner to facilitate optimal patient care and outcomes.\nf. Documents assessments, interventions, outcomes, and follow-ups on patient chart in a timely manner. Completes interdisciplinary care plans and other documents accurately and in a timely manner.\ng. Functions as a resource person for other members of the interdisciplinary health care team.\nh. Completes other duties as needed to promote proper running of the PT department and provide appropriate patient care.
