JOB SUMMARY:
Conducts tours, interviews, medical histories, physical assessments and orientations for all referred cardiac patients. Prepare and upgrade individualized exercise prescriptions. Supervise exercise rehabilitation classes. Perform ECG telemetry monitoring; provide patient education and clinical management of patients with various forms of coronary heart disease and other co-morbidities. Clinical exercise physiologists will provide clinical support for the Pulmonary Rehab program when appropriate.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Comprehensive assessment of patient status for exercise participation.
Prepare initial exercise prescriptions and continuously upgrade exercise prescriptions as needed.
Monitor cardiac patients during exercise sessions and notify attending physicians of abnormal physiological responses to exercise.
Provide the patient and referring physician with ongoing accurate information regarding patient status, progress and physiological responses to exercise.
Counsel and advise patients regarding attenuation of cardiac risk factors, exercise programming and home activities.
To ensure patient safety & efficiency, provide vigilant supervision for utilization of exercise equipment.
As part of the healthcare team, assist in documenting a patient’s “Individualized Treatment Plan” including discharge planning
Participate in and support performance improvement and risk management activities.
Perform other duties as assigned or requested in order to maintain a high level of service.
Complete required ongoing skills training and education, including department specific requirements.
Demonstrate professional work behavior by following Service Standards and Success factors.
Comply with departmental and organizational policies and procedures and adhere to external agency requirements.
Master’s degree in Exercise Science. Employee should have experience with conducting medical histories, physical assessment evaluations, development and implementation of exercise prescriptions with appropriate safety limitations, analysis of ECG’s, provision of patient education and clinical management of cardiac patients. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills are essential. American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) certification as an “Exercise Specialist” or “Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist” is preferred or will be required within 12 months of hire. Position requires current BLS certification and attainment of ACLS certification within 6 months of hire.
